This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My school is a high poverty school. All of our students receive free or reduced-price lunches, and we are very limited in resources and materials. Even though we face many challenges in our school, my students are bright children who love to learn and come to school with smiles on their faces every day. My students often tell me that they love coming to school to learn new things! They also love writing stories about their favorite characters from different book series.

My Project

By attending this conference, I will grow professionally by learning new ways to teach literacy and guided reading to my students. Jen Jones is such an inspiration to many teachers and learning from her would be a dream come true. With the 3rd grade reading law in Michigan, this school year one of my goals is to strengthen my reading and writing instruction to help all of my students reach grade level and move up to the next grade. This conference will teach me new and innovative ways to not only teach literacy but get my students excited about reading!
