This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Music is a very powerful force in the lives of young people. My school is very at-risk with 83% of the students receiving free/reduced breakfast and lunch. Many of our students are Hispanic, so choir which is offered to grades 3-5, really helps them acquire good language skills. We are also one of two gender-specific (All-Boys and All-Girls) schools in Nevada, and it is making a tremendous difference in the lives of our students.
Since most of our students do not speak English very well, they need extra help in their studies, especially in the language arts. It has been well documented that music, especially choir helps students to better their overall language arts skills through repetition and vocalization. Hand-Bells get students excited about music, because they are a hands-on activity that compliment the beauty of the children's voices.
We need 8 sets of one octave hand-bells in the key of C Major, because hand-bells compliment the beauty of children's voices like no other musical instrument. Also, hand-bells will give my "street smart" students, especially the boys, more of a reason to stay in our school's only extra-curricular club: choir.
Please give our students a reason to stay off the streets and stay in school. Your donation will make a powerful difference in the lives of so many students who basically have nothing. Thank you.
