Help me give my students the ability to hear the audio portion of the reading program designed to help them bring their reading levels closer to grade level.
My classrooms are full of lively teenagers ready to discover the power of reading well, thinking critically and writing for a purpose. Our urban public middle school has a diverse population of young people who come from all walks of life with half of the students qualifying for free and reduced lunch. No matter the circumstances my students come from, I want them all to feel welcome and valued within my classroom.
I love helping students realize that an education is something no one can ever take away from them.
When they realize that what happens in the classroom can get them what they want in life, motivation for learning grows. Without that motivation many students fail to use this time in middle school to prepare themselves for high school. I want to give them multiple opportunities to practice their writing and to read books that help them see a world of possibilities.
My Project
I teach students in both Honors English classes and Intervention reading classes. The modern flipped classroom that was created by so much virtual learning during the Pandemic has made it clear that some students want to learn through digital venues...some even do better. Many of my students cannot afford their own headphones and without access they are not getting the full benefits of many learning experiences designed for this generation of auditory and visual learners.
All of my students will benefit from a quality pair of headphones that will allow them to use all of their senses when interacting with online texts with audio, videos to inspire conversation and writing, as well as hear the important directions included with the Power Up Reading program.
