This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Struggling readers are often put off by reading, yet having the opportunity to develop their phonics and decoding skills as they read along with books on tape/cd can give them the opportunity to become more confident readers.
My students are wonderful kids who have limited resources and support as it pertains to their education.
They want to become better academically and simply need additional approaches to help them. They learn best by including multiple modalities and it is my goal to provide them with materials that will do just that.
My Project
I am requesting this listening center equipment to assist my students in the development and improvement of their reading skills through phonics and decoding practice. By being able to listen to books on tape/cd they will be able to practice sounding out the words and increase their fluency and comprehension skills. This will then help them to become more confident readers and hopefully develop a love and appreciation for books.
Bringing books to life for children can open up a world of possibilities and if a child struggles with their reading it will be a world they may never have the chance to explore.
My students are at the prime and yet so critical time where their reading skills are needed and must be continuously developed to build comprehension. Hearing reading modeled appropriately and being able to practice while following along will eventually help them become the successful independent readers they need to be
