My Students

Help our students learn by hearing! We need headphones to go with our mobile laptop cart in our library. Multiple classes come in to use the laptops for learning modules that include videos and sound clips, and we need a way for students to listen individually in order to learn at their own pace!

The high school students in our urban public school are from low-income homes.

Many of them use the library before school, at lunch, and after school for Internet use, reading, studying, homework, and tutoring. Most of the students do not have access to technology at home, and we do our best to offer them up-to-date materials. However, with a shortage of funds we are unable to sometimes purchase what we want and need. Our faculty and students take great pride in our school, and we want to be able to help them use any tools available to enhance their curriculum. Purchasing headphones to go with the laptops in our mobile cart will allow students to individually listen and follow along with learning modules, podcasts, video blogs, and learn at their own pace.

My Project

We have classes come to the library on a regular basis to use our mobile laptop cart. Many times they are using the laptops for tutorials, podcasts, learning modules, etc. that include videos or sound clips. We do not have headphones to go with the laptops, and many students do not have their own. This creates an issue--if everyone is at a different spot in a podcast or learning module, the sound becomes a distraction. We need headphones so that students can follow along and take in information at their own pace. Headphones for each student will improve their understanding of the material being taught in the learning modules and podcasts, and it will also help decrease the amount of distractions.

Donating to our project will help us bring more classes into the library to use the laptops to listen to the wealth of educational content that is accessible online.

It will also help make a difference in our students' education by increasing the content that is readily available to them. It allows them to eliminate distractions, focus on what they are listening to, and learn at their own pace. Please support our staff and students' desire to learn and help us purchase headphones!
