My Students

My eighth grade students are inquisitive and creative but are sometimes held back by cultural norms, socioeconomic status, and expectations by peers. Many do not have computer access at home and even more are unable to purchase basic items needed for school in the digital age.

They are from the US, Mexico and other South and Central American countries, Burma, Uganda, and Turkey.

My school services approximately 75% free and reduced price lunch students, and my classroom sees 165 students a day in 6 science classes.

My Project

My students are fortunate to each have their own Chromebook to use while at school. We utilize these laptops daily to complete digital notes, virtual labs, and interactive science games. The students work on their Chromebooks both collaboratively and independently.

When working independently, students need headphones to complete certain individual assignments.

Because of the limited number of headphones in my classroom, students are unable to hear from their laptop unless they have their own pair of ear buds. If each student had their own pair of ear buds, they could complete labs and assignments just as their peers with access to their own headphones do.
