I teach a class full of vibrant 1st graders who are eager to learn.
In our classroom we are kind, we are honest, we give compliments, we laugh a lot, we make mistakes, we have big dreams, we are peaceful, we work hard, and we are family. At our school, the teachers and staff are dedicated in building strong children, students of character, inspired, life-long learners, and well-rounded, adaptable citizens.
My Project
I would like to provide flexible seating ottoman stools when we meet in small groups. My students will be able to use these flexible seating stools, daily, to address their need to move. They will utilize these "tools" during lessons, group activities and independent work.
The students of our area have endured a traumatic school year following the devastation of Hurricane Harvey which destroyed homes, damaged properties, and left many students displaced.
Our community is strong and has stuck together to help one another. This love and compassion has also spread to our kids here in Texas. Our students love to serve one another. They have raised money and brought food for food banks and those who where impacted during Harvey.
In my flexible classroom, students will be able to choose where they learn best. This could be by sitting on a stool or wobbly chair, or even laying on the floor. It's all about choice and being responsible for their own learning. When they have the power to choose where they learn best, they will be more focused and more successful.
