My Students

My students need access to technology that will provide them with a voice and an opportunity to fully participate in class.

I am the proud teacher of 12 special needs students in grades 2-5.

I teach at an inner city school in Rhode Island. Many of my students receive free lunch. It is important for them to be able to experience technology in the classroom and to be able to express themselves through augmentive communication devices.

My Project

This tablet will provide my students with access to technology that will enable non-verbal students to participate more fully in class.. With the addition of a few augmentive communication apps, my students will be able to use this tablet to answer questions about stories that have been read, participate in morning meeting, and much more. With the addition of some more apps, it will become an E-reader and a device that will assist all my students in developing their OT skills by tracing letters and playing educational games.

This project will allow my students to be able to participate and communicate in ways that they are unable to do now.

It will give a voice to my non-verbal students. They will be able to speak through the tablet which will increase their confidence and self-esteem.
