Healthy Snacks & Weekly Care Packages

My Students

Our students come from a low socio-economic area. Most students come from broken homes, that struggle with drug abuse and homelessness. Yet they come to school and participate and try their best! Often they don't want to go home, they find structure, love, and comfort at school. We have students that do not have basic utilities in the home such as running water, and electricity.

Our staff members build relationships with students that last into their adult lives.

We often supply their clothing and basic needs as well as special "wants" occasionally. We have a food pantry, a clothing closet, and we have been fortunate to have a part time social worker that has reached out to families and helped them in so many positive ways.

My Project

We are in need of a refrigerator in our school. We have a nurse practitioner that works with our students to make healthy snacks, and meals. We need somewhere to store ingredients and also the food once it is finished, so students are able to take it home. In addition this resource would allow teachers to store snacks and students lunches at an appropriate temperature during the school day. We also prepare meals for students to take home over the weekends, and on holiday breaks. Having a refrigerator allows us to offer healthier options in those food bags, rather than processed foods.
