This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
So far from what I have learned living in suburban of Florida is that there is a huge divide between the wealthy and less fortunate. There are not a lot of middle-income families because the cost of housing is sky-high. My students are a class of eighteen learners who are from less fortunate families. Many are migrants to the country and families are working two jobs or finding work wherever they can. Ninety-seven percent of my school has free or reduced lunch prices. I believe for these students that education is their only way out of their situation, the gateway to a better life. I tell my students every year that I am the best teacher for them because they are the best students for me and for each other. Please help our classroom community by choosing us! Thank you!
My Project
My students come from families who buy chips and McDonald's for all their family's food needs. Even though I have allowed parents to send a snack, most kids say their parents won't buy them healthier snacks because they are too expensive.
I would like to provide them with a healthy snack during the day.
My class, in particular, eats lunch at 12:10, which is a long morning of learning. Giving them a healthy snack will help them to have sustained energy to learn all morning. Many students do not eat the school lunch because they say it does not taste good. Please help us to have a healthy option for our long learning day! When I bring healthy snacks, students ask me to share with them because it is something they have never tasted. Parents usually buy snacks which turn their fingers a bright red color from food dyes. I want to show students that healthy snacks taste great and they have access to them at school if not at home.
Students will be energized from healthy grains and fats in order to keep their brains and bodies ready to learn!
