Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

We are an inner-city, Title I funded school in Houston, Texas. The majority of our students are emerging bilinguals whose work ethic is second to none as they strive to be readers in two languages! These children come from homes that support and desire a quality education for their students.

Learning English gives students two language tools for a successful, productive life.

Students in my classes are loving and supportive of each other as they strive to read, write, and think in their second language. They are an amazing group of enthusiastic learners! Students love math, science, and technology and are inquisitive and eager to learn about the world around them. Students enjoy coming to school every day because they know we care about them as individuals, and we care about their futures.

My Project

Before children can focus on learning, they need to feel safe and nurtured. Providing food allows a “family” bond to develop, and our classroom becomes a home away from home.

Offering students healthy snacks allows me to meet their needs at a very basic level.

Hungry tummies are not easily ignored when you are 7, 8, and 9 years old.

Faces light up when children see cereal, crackers, Rice Krispie treats, and protein packets of chicken or tuna! After a good, healthy snack, learning begins with enthusiasm. Your gift allows me to see those beautiful faces light up! They are always so appreciative. Your gift will warm many hearts.
