My Project

In kindergarten, snack time is a social time that is built in so that children can work on relationship building and friendships. As the children are snacking, they have various conversations and you see smiles and laughter all around.

Some students, for various reasons, might not pack a snack from home.

As a teacher, I am always searching though my own lunch box, offering what I have and giving snacks to those students. Other times, I shop for the kids over the weekend and bring a variety of snacks. Having a nice bin of healthy snack choices for the kids to choose from will help the children feel comfortable, happy, and will fill their bellies! With a nice choice of snacks, the children that forget to pack (or do not have the resources at home), will not feel out of place and will never be hungry. They will be able to partake in those kindergarten snack time conversations where so much learning actually takes place: turn taking, empathy, excitement and joy! And, most importantly, as we all know, it is hard to work on an empty stomach!
