Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students truly enjoy learning and being challenged throughout all areas of school work. Our school is located in Durham, NC in a very high poverty area. Despite this challenge my students are eager to come to school. I teach twenty-four academically gifted students across grades 3-5. My students are constantly seeking new books to read. They are a bright group of students who love to learn and be pushed. Our school is a year-round magnet school. We are currently in the first quarter of our school year.
My Project
Our school has started a new program called Girls on The Run. We are thrilled to begin this after school group. This program meets twice a week from 2:15-3:45 after school. We are hoping that through this project we can get snacks for our girls to eat after school. Our school is a high poverty school and the majority of our students receive free-reduced lunch.
We are hoping with this project allows us to provide another snack so the girls do not go hungry.
I am asking for nine different kinds of healthy snacks for participants in our after school running program. This project will give the girls another opportunity to eat before we begin our program. We know that through this program and project we can make a difference in these girls' lives.
