Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My 17 kindergarten students are eager to learn. They come from a low socioeconomic background, and in most cases come from homes where parents do not read to them, or do not have the means to access technology. My students live in an impoverished community in East Los Angeles, and are from predominantly Latino backgrounds. They range from newly arrived immigrants to third-generation immigrants. I have students that do not have adequate resources to keep learning from home. The students that I work with are receiving free school lunches.
Despite the challenges my students face, they are happy children who want to learn.
My Project
My kindergarten students need daily physical activity to help increase their focus in the classroom, help them learn better, and release their high energy in a structured way.
Some of the equipment I have requested includes: jump ropes, playground balls and a pump, a bean bag toss game, and soft flying discs.
My students will use this equipment to help them improve focus in the classroom, increase their school performance, and manage their energy levels.
In providing these resources for my students my kindergartners will also have the opportunity to develop their gross motor skills while having fun. They will have opportunities to work with their peers in teams and build social relationships and class community.
