I teach in the Los Angeles Unified School District in East Los Angeles. Our school serves students in grades ETK-6. We are an inner city public school and 100% of our students are in the free meal plan. I teach kindergarten to 26 eager kindergarten students. I am teaching a dual language program this school year. I will love to spark the love for literature at this young age. My students would benefit from listening center, because often times they are not read to at home. They go home and parents cannot read themselves so they cannot read to their child. I would like for my students to be able to listen to good reading modeling besides me, the teacher. I want to engage them at this young age to spark their curiosity for stories. The students will use the listening center and books as another model, besides me their teacher, of fluent reading. Please help me bring literacy to these young scholars!
