Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My fifth grade students view each day as an opportunity to learn and explore the world around them. They develop their minds with new skills every day. My incredible students are filled to the brim with energy and enthusiasm for learning. My school is Title I and located in a low socioeconomic community with limited resources. All of my students receive free school lunch and are classified as English language learners. As part of a dual language program, my students must meet grade level standards in both English and Spanish. As a result, my students must be organized and able to quickly access materials for the appropriate language and activities of the day.
My Project
Feeling sick is terrible, feeling sick and being sent to school is probably worse. It's cold and flu season, and unfortunately many students are sent to school with contagious illnesses. Students that feel ill cannot focus or concentrate in class, and must be sent home until they feel better.
This year, the flu virus is very strong, we need a variety of supplies to combat the germs and keep our students happy and healthy.
We need disposable thermometers to see if students who feel ill have a fever, so that they can get the proper medical attention. We also need disposable gloves, band aids, cold packs, and a first aid kit for minor accidents. We need Lysol, paper towels, and baby wipes to wipe down our tables and keep germs at bay. Our classroom needs a good vacuum and broom to minimize dust and other allergens in our room. We do not have a vacuum and our current broom is falling apart. The Kleenex and hand soap are to help students maintain good hygiene and not spread their germs to others. We also need grouping pencils, markers and books to help students learn about illnesses and how to stay healthy and minimize sharing germs.
