Help me give my students their own personal toiletries to take care of themselves. I can teach them to care for their bodies and keep themselves clean but they need the supplies to follow through to do it.
My school, located in Wisconsin, is filled with diverse learners! My students try to stay engaged in learning educational lessons in meaningful ways despite the daily struggles they have to face outside the walls of the school building. The students are eager to learn about the world around them and it is my responsibility to help them develop and enjoy a lifelong love of learning despite coming in without their basic needs being met.
My students are energetic, enthusiastic learners who come to school ready to learn each day!
My students come from a variety of backgrounds both culturally and economically. Over 125 children take food bags home for the weekend and we serve free breakfast daily to all children in the building. We are a high poverty school at over 80% free and reduced lunch trying to make an impact in the lives of these children and let them know they always have someone that loves them and are there for them no matter what. I am proud to call myself the teacher of such incredible students.
My Project
My students are growing up so fast. They are noticing that their bodies are changing and don't know exactly what to do. They know they smell like sweat, their lips are chapped, their hands are dry, their hair is dirty and messy. They want to look in the mirror, or go to the bathroom to brush their hair if only they had what they needed to take care of these things.
They come into my classroom asking me for my soap, lotion or Chapstick for their lips.
They are constantly asking to go to the bathroom to look in the mirror to check their hair. I personally supply my students with feminine products, washcloths, toothbrushes, lotion, and Chapstick everyday. With your help, I can supply my students with their own personal toiletries to take care of themselves. This can teach them to be responsible for taking care of themselves. I can help to teach them good hygiene. They need to be able to take care of their bodies as well as their minds.
