This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My at risk students are 7th and 8th grade are highly motivated young people with about 80% receiving free or reduced price lunch. I meet with a group of students each morning to assist them in having a successful day. Helping students be successful means keeping them healthy and the classroom clean.
These students are always grateful for assistance in staying healthy during flu and cold season.
Having a nutritious snack not only brightens their day, but also gives their brain the fuel if needs as they work in groups, complete projects, and show their knowledge on assessments.
My Project
I see a group of at risk seventh and eighth graders each morning to start their day. I make sure that they are ready to face the challenging day of learning ahead of them.
Often times these motivated learners come to school without having eaten yet or even feeling a little under the weather.
Having a nutritious snack like a granola bar and a juice box before heading off to first hour is a highlight for them. I know that the healthier they stay during the school day the more successful they will be and the more likely they will be in school again the next day.
It is also important for our hands and room to be as clean as possible with the use of germ killing wipes to avoid spreading cold or flu viruses. These students are so appreciate of assistance in staying healthy and ready to learn
