My Students

I am a school nurse at a Title I elementary school ( K-5) in Olympia, WA. Over 60% of our students qualify for free or reduced-price meals at school. Our school serves children of all ethnicities. I serve both general and special education students.

Daily, I care for children that do not have their basic needs met.

They are hungry, tired, and not properly clothed. Before children can be open to learn, they must have proper nourishment, sleep, and clothing.

My Project

My students require healthy snacks and drinks to improve their ability to learn daily. Many of my students come to school hungry. Many of my student are homeless or moving from place to place frequently.

It is important for me to have healthy snacks and drinks when needed so they are able to focus on their education and growing their hearts and minds.

Having easy and healthy snacks to supplement school meals sounds so simple but can greatly effect a students school day in a positive way. Often because of decreased school budgets district-wide, I purchase these items out of my own pocket.
