My Students
Who are my students? Gosh, when they take off their masks when they eat lunch, I feel like, I don't even know them. My brain has made up what they were supposed to look like and when they take off their masks, I feel they are strangers again. Regardless of the masks they wear, they are mine and I am working hard to help them feel safe again.
Our students receive free or reduced-price lunch, and it was such a blessing to see our district provide breakfast, lunch, and dinner for persons under 18 years old with no questions asked!
Our students work hard and they are excited and eager to learn.
This past school year opened my eyes to family dynamics and personal struggles. I choose my school and community because I love how every year changes whether it's the students who move to the next grade or I move grade levels. I can't say it enough: I love my school because we offer our students STEM opportunities that no other school in our district can.
My Project
When students are inspired or need a way to express themselves, a teacher needs to be prepared with, not just a pencil and paper, but clay. In an example this week, we are taking a virtual field trip to a local museum. I asked the students what do they like more portraits or sculptures. They said sculptures.
After front loading some of the art pieces we would see, they wanted to get their hands on clay to make something.
I wish I was prepared or had something on hand so I could say, let's do it while the fire was hot! This clay would help pour gas on a fire that is already lit to create.
