Healthy Bodies & Healthy Minds in 1st Grade

Help me give my students seeds to plant healthy food, seating options to allow our bodies to move, and germ killers to keep us clean.

My Project

My 22 first graders are always eager to learn new things everyday as they experience the world around them. We all know they learn best when they are able to stay healthy and come to school and participate in the classroom.

Washing hands, sneezing in sleeves, eating a healthy diet, and keeping our bodies active are a few of our favorite things!

We always encourage healthy habits while using plenty of tissues and hand sanitizer especially in the winter months! We also need more seeds so that we can continue to grow lettuce and herbs through hydroponics in our classroom during the cold months and in our more traditional outdoor garden during the warm months. When students grow food, they are more likely to eat it, which we have proven this year with our lettuce and tea parties!

Finally, in our classroom, students choose from various flexible seating options so that they can keep their bodies moving while learning, which in turn, keeps their minds active. I hope to offer students more options so no one has to sit in a spot all day that does not work for them. The scoop rockers, stadium seats, and seat cushions will give our students a choice and voice in our classroom.
