My Project

In the frigid, dark depths of winter, my students are in desperate need of an energy shift. Bodies are exhausted, minds are frantic and anxious about the upcoming end of the semester, souls are slumped.

Bringing more light, more leaves, more fresh smells, more nutrition and more color into our space is just the cure for these winter blues.

So far this school year, my students are loving my new classroom space that I was able to furnish from a previous Donors Choose project. In addition to the colorful posters and bright decor, I'm excited to bring classroom plants and grow lights to our space. Additionally, I'm hoping to fund nutritious classroom snacks, period products for my menstruating students, air freshener refills, and another large mural for my students to color during much-needed brain breaks.

Being in my own classroom space and having the ability to create a welcoming, affirming atmosphere for my students has become a huge part of my identity as a teacher. Feeling uplifted, seen and valued when entering a room is something that more students need to experience in their K-12 educations. I would love to continue to expand on this in my classroom!
