I teach music at a school in suburban South Carolina. These students make up forty-five classes in grades Pre-Kindergarten through fifth grade, including special ed, regular ed, and gifted students. Many of these students come from low-income families and they rely on teachers or the school for their materials. All of my students love new experiences. They are always eager to get involved in learning.
Our mascot is the “Busy Bee” and we certainly stay busy trying to make every moment count in music class!
My Project
"I need a tissue", "I need a Band-aid", "I need hand sanitizer". You would be amazed at how often these words interrupt a classroom in process. These are valid day to day needs of my students.
Each year teachers have to purchase supplies to keep students healthy in the classroom.
These purchases usually come out of their own pocket. I am sure you can imagine how quickly the costs of simple items such as tissue, cleaning supplies, Band-aids, and hand sanitizer add up over the course of a year. Now imagine having to furnish all of these supplies for not one, but 30 classes! Yes, I provide these items for 750 students each year.
I want my students to learn. That is why I teach. How can they be successful learners if they are not healthy? It becomes very difficult. Their health affects their enthusiasm in class and willingness to participate. It also affects their attendance at school in general. This is where you can make a difference by doing something special for my 750 students.
The dusters, wipes, and paper towels will also serve to teach my students responsibility and how to respect our classroom materials. Students will have the job of cleaning our instruments each week.
Please consider helping my students to stay healthy and happy this school year, so that they can learn to the best of their potential. This will directly impact their learning and love for music and ensure that we all have the best year possible!
