Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students come from diverse families and have overcome many adversities. Providing these students with all the resources that they deserve will help to motivate and engage them. I would like to create a classroom environment that is enriching and representative of who they are.
My students are resilient, strong, and courageous learners!
Our school is located is in a working-class community; many of my students face food and housing insecurity. As a first-year teacher, I am trying to cover as much ground as I can by providing my students with tools that are essential and appropriate for their growth.
My Project
These resources will help my students feel physically and emotionally better as they continue to transition into face-to-face learning. An air purifier plus a filter will go a long way! Our classroom is located in one of the heaviest polluted areas in the country, many times students are not allowed to go out to recess due to the air quality and stay inside where the air is not much better. Smog is expected and normal in our area and a purifier would improve our student's physical health and keep the focus on learning!
Many of my students have gone through direct traumatizing experiences due to COVID-19, keeping the classroom comfortable and safe is a top priority.
Included in this list are items for a cozier classroom that is inviting and will aid in regulation of emotions. These items, like the chair and cube organizers will go in our library, so during students free time they can read and browse. The play-doh, paint, brushes and puzzle games will be directly used so students can flex their creative sides in a low stakes environment. I plan on implanting play-doh challenges with the students and having puzzle times at the end of the week to ease them back into a regular routine.
