This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Teaching in an urban setting where most, if not all, my students are touched by trauma, playing board games and having art is an outlet that is much needed.

In my fifth grade classroom so many of my students have experienced trauma and loss.

They spend a large amount of time at home on cellphones. During our school day having board games such as Connect 4 and free art time (where they can color and explore sensory cloud clay) is a way for them to effectively communicate with their peers and express themselves.

This project will help continue safe expression in our class.
