Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

We all love clean beaches and it is encouraging that students at C. High School love making the beach free of litter. Last year, our students filled over 20 bags of trash and participated in a hands-on activity that teaches them to appreciate the environment! We want to do it again this year!

Even though our school is just over the hills from the beach, many of our students have never even spent time there.

By participating in this beach clean-up, we connect classroom lessons and environmental awareness to a productive and life changing activity.

My Project

Because of budget cuts, the cost of transportation (out major expense) is not covered by the school district. The only additional costs are the materials to conduct the clean-up. We also have a group of dedicated volunteers and retired teachers that help us keep staffing costs at zero.

Many of our students are low income and will greatly benefit by this field trip so they can actually apply what they learn in the classroom to real life actions to make a difference in the world.

Not only will they be learning about environmental issues in their Environmental Studies class, they will be reading and writing about the topic in English class, filming the clean-up for their Video class, and working to make the world a better place.
