I am teaching about sixty students this year in a reading and writing intervention class. This class is designed to help students who are significantly below grade level. I have a wide spectrum of ability levels ranging from students who do not speak English to students who are only a year or two behind their grade level. With the limited resources we have available, I don't have much that helps readers that are significantly below grade level. To help meet the needs of my students, I have found specific skill studies to be super beneficial in eliminating gaps and helping students grow who are reading at a lower elementary level. Therefore, I would love to have different reading skill sets in order to make sure all students can successfully close all the reading gaps in order to read on grade level.
My Project
Many of my struggling students can feel successful when reading grade level texts when it is read to them out loud. However, with limited headphones, my students don't always get that opportunity. Our Chromebooks have a feature where students who really struggle with reading have the option to have the text read out loud to them so that they can understand the passage. I will use the headphones in class so my students can use them for both audio passages in ReadWorks and Reading Plus. In addition, we use IXL a lot to show gap growth. Lower level students will be able to use the headphones to have the passage read to them.
