Help me give my students headphones for their computers! Students have a difficult time hearing their computers when there are multiple people using the computer speaker. With headphones, they will be able to hear their online lessons!
Our school is nestled in a quiet neighborhood near Ho'omaluhia Botanical Garden. Our student demography comes from many different backgrounds. Unfortunately, some of these backgrounds come from low income households and not all of our students are able to provide some school supplies. However, our school has shown great family support whenever our school was in need.
My second grade class is full of students that have a lot of ambition to do their best and learn as much as they can.
They work hard every day to think of ways to achieve their own success. Every student comes to school with their homework completed, but there are times when I see struggle. I would love to support them the way I would normally, but teaching while staying distanced from them has been proven difficult. We are working to incorporate a variety of learning strategies, group work, and alternative seating and learning options to ensure that each student's needs are met, right where they are! They are an incredible group, and I am extremely lucky to have a wonderful group of learners that are excited and ready to learn each year despite these difficult times!
My Project
My class loves to learn something new and interesting every day. However, with COVID-19 affecting how we learn in school now, statistically, students are not showing growth in the places they should be. Learning from a distance is extremely hard for college students, so imagine how hard it is for younger students! In our class, I am not able to work in small groups or one-on-one due to social distancing restrictions. We are using many online resources to help catch the students up with what they missed during distanced or half in-person classes caused by COVID. I would like to provide headphones to the students that do not have the funds.
With everyone using headphones, I will be able to work with these students in small groups via online without bothering other students!
Holding small groups will be very beneficial for students because I will be able to focus on specific needs of the students in that group rather than some students getting bored or lose focus during whole group instruction. The students that are not working with me in a small group, can continue to work on the skills they learned or they will be able to work on centers that I will provide them via online, thus providing the mandatory social distancing. Headphones will be much appreciated for everyone!
