The majority of my students are English Language Learners from low-income, immigrant families who qualify for free or reduced-price lunches. They live in small, one-room apartments with shared kitchens and bathrooms. Most of my students are cared for by their grandparents because their parents are too busy making a living. Some even need to work two jobs to make ends meet.
In spite of these hardships, these wonderful students come to school eager to learn!
Although their parents expect them to do well in school, most of the parents feel they cannot help their children with their schooling because of their long work hours and their own limited English speaking skills.
My Project
Headphones are helpful for students working on individual computer assignments. I post assignments on Seesaw for students to explain their reasoning for a math problem. The headphones keep them focused and block out other sounds in the classroom. The microphones let them record their voices and show what they have learned in English, math, and other subjects.
Students need their own personal headphones to keep everyone safe while they learn.
The hypochlorite maker turns water and salt into a disinfecting spray. This allows me to disinfect all the chromebooks and headphones at the end of each day. The hypochlorite maker is environmentally friendly and safe for students to use as hand sanitizer as well. This keeps everyone safe without introducing harsh chemicals into the classroom.
