Help me give my students each a pair of Califone Listening Headphones so they can access technology independently and hear what they are working on in class.
My students are creative, energetic, thoughtful and full of questions! They absolutely love hands-on, active, engaging projects and challenge. They come to school each day ready to try new things and take brave chances in order to grow both personally and academically. Truly, they are my inspiration!
Many students in my classroom love technology and being 2018 have unlimited access to screens and technology at home.
Our school is nestled in Oregon City, a town just outside of Portland. Our school is next to public housing, but also has a number of newer housing developments. So we are a blend of all socio-economic levels. We are a Title One School with 50% of our students on free and reduced lunch.
Each child in my classroom absolutely loves learning, although the method and environment in which they learn best vary greatly. We incorporate a variety of learning strategies, group work, and alternative seating and learning options to ensure that each student's needs are met, right where they are! They are truly an incredible group, and I am so lucky and thankful to have a new group of learners that are excited and ready to learn each year!
My Project
Students spend time on various self-pacing programs on the computer and iPads each day. Some of the programs are Ticket to Read, Prodigy, Tumble Books, and Starfall. Through these programs and others we use in the class students are able to move at their own pace in reinforcing their reading and math skills. Good quality working headphones are a must for these programs since they all talk to the students to give instructions, reteach a concept or read to them. They are a great tool to have to help avoid distractions by neighbors.
We would like every student to be successful in their education.
One way to help students practice the skills that are being taught in the classroom is through technology. Through good technology programs students are able to practice and learn the skills they need to be successful. 1st grade is such and important stepping stone to the rest of their education. We hope that students leave our class with a good educational foundation that will support them through the rest of their lives.
