My Students

My 2nd grade students are an enthusiastic, varied leveled group of children. They are so excited to be back together in the classroom receiving in-person learning. They have faced many challenges as they begin their 3rd year of public education. They were in Kindergarten at the beginning of the pandemic and because of this have yet to have a "normal" learning experience. My students have obvious gaps in their education. One consistency my students have had is their exposure to technology as a survival strategy when having to learn virtually. We continue to face challenges in the classroom as we are still impacted by students being excluded due to exposure of Covid.

My Project

The use of headphones have become a necessity for students' learning both in the classroom and at home. My students use their classroom computers daily for all subject areas. They use them during our guided reading time to listen to books, read books orally and take comprehension quizzes on Raz Kids. They use them during our math block to access Dream Box in which they play learning games, advancing through levels as they acquire skills. They use them during Science as our newly adopted science program, Next Generation gives many online resources. They use them during our social studies block as they access Scholastic News. When students are excluded because of exposure to Covid, they are allowed to take their computers home as this is the best way to keep their learning consistent.
