My Students

My middle school students are extremely bright and learn faster than I can teach them sometimes! Twenty-first-century students are blessed and cursed with technology, but we have the obligation to use all available resources.

Although I am fortunate enough to teach students that want to learn, my students don't always come from the most financially secure households.

Teaching middle school has its own challenges and rewards. Since I teach 6th, 7th and 8th grade, I've had several of my students throughout their entire middle school career!

My Project

In order to properly teach my students, I require each of them to bring a set of headphones or earbuds each day. Some students have no trouble bringing in headphones, but others simply cannot. Even the students that can bring them in, sometimes forget or, let's face it, they break! Over the years I have provided my students with dozens of headphones from my own pocket, but they, unfortunately, are not built to last.

Children should be taught to be responsible and be prepared for class, but they should not have to worry about the cost of those supplies.

I want my students to be successful; so they need to not worry about adult responsibilities such as affording headphones.
