We worked so hard to get the funding for the Kindle Fires and the Lego Boost, but didn't have enough to protect them! Right now my students are struggling to code their robotic cats because we have to leave the plastic wrap on until we can get the screen protectors. Any time a Kindle slips out of a student's hand, a collective gasp can be heard throughout the room. We can't afford to replace them, but we can't afford to protect them either. My 6th, 7th and 8th graders have already used the tablets to explore Augmented Reality, discover famous inventors and create walking robots. With the tablets unprotected, the students focus more on keeping them safe and not as much on their learning. At our charter school, we pride ourselves on giving our students more that they would receive in a regular public school. The only problem is we aren't funded like a regular public school, so much of what we give them comes from donors.
