This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The students at our school are amazing. We are one of the top Title I schools in our county; scoring a continuous A or B for the last 10+ years. Our students and parents highly value education and it shows in all our students achieve.

Our school is composed of 87% Hispanic, 2.6% African American, and 1.2% Asian.

The majority of our students originate from Spanish speaking countries, primarily Cuba. 91.3% of our students are on free or reduced price lunch.

Our school environment is one where students feel safe, valued, and cared for. We pride ourselves with making our students feel at home away from home.

My Project

The students at our school are required to attend computer lab each and every day. While this is usually a time they enjoy working on their designated programs, many times it can be a little loud. Not all of my students have headphones due to the fact many of them arrived with only the shirts off their backs after leaving a devastated island after Hurricane Maria. Since not all the students have headphones you can usually hear a few programs in the computer lab. This not only makes it for the student without headphones, but also interferes with other students learning.

These headphones would assure that each student is able to do their best working on their individualized program in the computer lab, maximizing learning.

It would allow each student to also feel proud that they have their own headphones and can take control of their learning.
