This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

In my mathematics classroom, we learn math in the context of living in the reality of our lives and community. It is exciting, challenging, and very rewarding to teach middle school math to my students. They are passionate advocates for themselves and immensely challenged by the circumstances they face. Many are new immigrants, English language learners, Special Needs students, and from low-income families and neighborhoods. Often they come in believing that math is not relevant to their lives. Some of them have harsh realities and challenges just surviving, let alone thriving.

They inspire me to be my best and to raise my capacities to inspire them to work hard and learn that they can master learning, master math, and thrive in this world with consistent focused work.

I am not satisfied with the status quo and that is what I work to inspire in them. The rewards of making a difference with these students really hit home and left me moved and inspired.

My Project

Having a pair of headphones for each student will help them get the best experience of technology while they encompass Algebra, Probability, Statistics, and State testing! The students are unable to purchase headphones due to hardships at home and they would truly appreciate and benefit from being able to have a pair of comfortable headphones to use during class time.

The students use technological programs such as Khan Academy, Carnegie Learning and Mathia For Us on a daily basis.

The students get easily distracted when they hear another student's computer audio. Therefore, having headphones would allow for each student to be able to engage in these programs by having the comfort of hearing anything necessary. This will make a profound difference for the students with learning disabilities. Thank you for your generosity!
