I serve immigrant and refugee children from twenty-one different countries. There are five languages represented in my room - Vietnamese, Bantu, Arabic, English and Somali. Our school is ninety-eight percent free or reduced price lunch.
The students and families I serve, are overwhelmed with gratitude at the educational opportunity their children are receiving.
Despite previously tramatic experiences, my students come to school excited and ready to engage with the rigorous academic curriculum.
The high value placed on education by our families provides the motivation and support necessary to help students who are years behind grade level expectations.
We are looking for: simple black headphones to be used on computer programs and to cancel out background noise. Headphones will allow our students to hear themselves read (phonics and fluency support) and create published work to share with friends and family. Our students need sturdy headphones that cover the whole ear. The headphones are from Best Buy, Sony brand kids headphones.
Publishing work brings meaning and engagement to math, reading and writing; students see a purpose, an end goal, for tasks that typically elicit the response "why do we need to know this?"Headphones will be kept at school for daily use on the following programs: Seesaw, Prodigy math, Lexia, Reflex, Razkids
