My students look forward to time at listening centers, ipads and computers but the headphones we are currently using are too big and fall off and make the learning experience frustrating rather than engaging.
Our school is a high-poverty elementary school where 100% of the students qualify for free breakfast, snack and lunch.
Fifty percent of our students are English Language Learners and would benefit from the opportunity to listen to self-selected and self-paced stories, math and literacy activities in English. Our classrooms have very high teacher to student ratios (1:29) and our students need as many meaningful independent learning opportunities as possible.
My Project
During math, literacy and independent work time students will be able to better access our technology resources. Students will be able to work individually, or in pairs, with books on tape or cd, ipad apps and computer programs. Students will be able to select the stories that they are drawn to and listen and read along at their own pace. Students will also be able to choose the math and literacy apps or programs that appeal to them. In addition they can work in paced programs such as Reading Eggs and Math Whizz that respond to the students needs and individualize the materials being presented.
Having access to kindergarten friendly headphones will remove some of the frustrations that students face when working with technology.
The simple fact that the headphones fit their smaller heads makes a huge difference. These headphones also have a volume control on the wire rather than on the earpiece making it easier for young children to adjust the volume.
