Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
This will be my first year teaching as a certified teacher. The school where I teach is a Dual Language school, where over 90% of students attending are students of color. This school is near and dear to my heart, as it was the school I attended growing up. This year I will be teaching 4th grade.
My students come from diverse backgrounds, but come together for their love of learning.
My students have grown together as their cohort advances year to year. They are fierce and voracious learners, constantly hungry for more information. Every day I am greeted with their smiles and eager dispositions.
My Project
My goal is to be able to have a class set of headphones, so that each one of my students can have their own pair. I teach in a Title 1 school, in which there are only couple of working class sets for the whole school of over 500 students. Those headphones are mostly used for state testing. Last year, it was a challenge to do online programs such as iReady, reading a-z, and Imagine learning due to the lack of headphones. Students weren't able to listen to the instructions or would be too distracted by other's computers.
I can picture the smiles on their faces, the they get handed a pair of beautiful headphones, that are just for them...
Having a class set would also be extremely beneficial considering the current pandemic that we are in. Our state plans to have students back in classrooms (to a certain degree) this fall. Each student having their own set of headphones would really help reducing the risk of passing germs and viruses along.
