Headphones, Fidget Bands, and Pencils Sharpeners... Oh My!

My Students

As a teacher in a low income/high poverty area, my students face many challenges. All of the students in our school receive free and reduced-price lunch, and about 95 percent of them qualify due to their socioeconomic status. Although my students face many challenges daily, my goal is to help them succeed in the classroom as best I can.

My students are goofy, fun-loving kids who love to move, dance, talk, read, learn, and celebrate each other's success.

When my students walk into my room each day, we focus on the positives and what they are capable of. We encourage, accept, and love each other daily. Although I cannot change their home lives, I can make sure that they are loved, respected, encouraged, and appreciated while they are at school.

My Project

A few of my students are in need of a couple sets of quality headphones. I ended up having 24 students this year, instead of the 19 that I was anticipating. So far, 20 of my students have been blessed with a nice pair of headphones, courtesy of generous and thoughtful donors on this site. 4 of my students, have been using not so great headphones. These 4 sets are tearing on the cords, or not working at all, causing them to not have headphones for their math rotations and Daily 5 rotations.

As a teacher in a school in a low income neighborhood, it is difficult to ask the families to send in a quality set of headphones that will hold up, without costing them a decent amount.

My 4 students who do not have quality headphones would be thrilled to have a working set, like the rest of their classmates have. These headphones would be something that I can use for my students year after year. The 20 sets that we have been given have been wonderful for helping students focus, and cutting down on the noise level that comes with 24 tiny humans in one room.

We are also in need of more fidget bands for their chairs. 7 year olds love to wiggle, and many of them can focus much better when they are able to wiggle. These elastic bands go on the bottom of their chair legs, and they allow the kids to quietly kick their little feet, with pressure and resistance, until their hearts are content. We currently have 20 fidget bands, but I have 24 students, so 4 of them are left out.

Also, we are in need of a quality pencil sharpener.
