Research shows that children are not built to sit in hard, plastic chairs, like the ones that are provided in most elementary classrooms. Boys, in particular, are said to be extremely "wiggly" when sitting in these seats, leading them to be referred for ADHD, because of their inability to "sit still." When children have the opportunity to sit on a comfortable seat, versus hard plastic, they are able to sit for longer periods of time, improving their focus and productivity. The wobble cushions that I am requesting provide both comfort, and the ability to wiggle while working. With a whole class set of wobble cushions, I am hoping to improve the focus, productivity, comfort, and quietness of my classroom when completing work at their seats. My kids spend about two thirds of their classroom time at their seats, either reading, completing independent work, or working with a partner. With wobble cushions, they will able to perform better, in a more comfortable setting.
