This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My HAWKS build interactive notebooks to enhance their learning in Biology. Interactive Notebook building is easier with the use of a composition notebook that is quad printed (gridded like graph paper).
HCHS is a public high school in low income suburbia.
There were 2166 students enrolled in 2011, 86.3% are Black, and 45% are on free/reduced lunch. Only 33% enter a 4 year university and 86% are placed in a Career-Technical field. The composite ACT score of the high school is 18 score, and only 67% take the ACT. Our students have many challenges and to overcome them our students need educational support from their teachers to provide them better opportunities to succeed in life.
Students use of a gridded science notebook allows them to keep an interactive notebook for biology and physiology class. These notebooks are essential to provide an atmosphere of real science by having students record their inquiry labs, record lecture notes. No more turning in papers when students can keep everything in their notebook and it provides them a streamlined view of activities relating to the notes and homework. Please help my HAWKS get all the experience they need to learn how to study by keeping interactive notebooks! The pre-gridded paper allows for easy line graph creation and chart development for labs. This will be vital to teach the importance of scientific design within a biological classroom.
Your donation will allow my students to practice science in the real world by using gridded composition notebooks to record data and graph results of the inquiry labs and activities that the class will do.
