This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach at a Title I, performance improvement school with the majority of our students participating in the free lunch program. Yet, even though many of them have limited resources, my students are inquisitive and they love to learn; they inspire my teaching every day!

I love teaching my students in person; we get to read together, do math together, and have fun creating art together.

Being back in-person has been great! My students work hard and they inspire me to come up with projects and activities that they will engage them and they perceive as fun.

My Project

Last year, I had a project funded to give LEGOS to my students to use for classroom learning and for play. They were excited to receive a LEGO Classic Creative Suitcase to say the least. They couldn't wait to show me what they created when we would ZOOM during remote learning. This year, I want to bring that same level of excitement and fun to my students this year, even though we are now back in person for learning.

The LEGOS in this project will be used to help teach my students about multiplication and fractions; they will also be used to create things imagined by my students.

LEGOs will be used as part of my math instruction as well as free-time activities during indoor recess when we have rainy day schedule.

These 20 LEGO sets will supplement 6 cases I already have in my classroom, allowing for each of my students to have access to their own kit--this is why I love this LEGO set! Each suitcase will give each of my students a set of bricks that can be stored in their own suitcase. Each case will then have a student's name and number to make it easier for everyone to know which case is their's. The design of the storage case will also make it easier to store the LEGOs when not in use. Each student will also receive a brick plate so they have a place to build on when they are busy creating; the brick plates will also help make clean up easier.

Each child having their own set of LEGOs will also help us keep safe while following our District's COVID-19 guidelines. At the end of the year, my students will get to keep their LEGO sets.
