"Have you Herb?" (Heard)
My students love to use fresh herbs and spices in their lab dishes.
They say "It tastes so fresh, and earthy." Students will be able to be creative based on what they grow and harvest. 90% of my student reside in low-income apartments, and I am giving my students an opportunity to grow their own food from their front porch or balcony. Our garden has been thriving for over 4 years now. This upcoming spring, one of our main focuses is to create an indoor aquaponics garden, using goldfish to supply our seedlings and sprouts with daily nutrients. My students will get an awesome opportunity to learn how to grow fresh herbs and vegetables indoors, so they can develop a skill to use at home to start their own indoor garden. Understanding the why and how you grow your own food gives my students a mindset of ownership. Students will then begin to set goals to buy land so they can not only grow their own food, be self-sufficient but, to teach their children and hopefully create a generational farm.
Students will be most satisfied if they can take a seed, care for it, watch it grow and then consume a product that they know was handled with care.
