We are a 90-90 working on the last 90 schools. 99% of our students are a minority. 90% of our students are considered "at-risk" due to family income, home life, and their environment. My cheerleading squad works hard every day to overcome the stigma associated with being students at an urban school in an urban district. In order for our students to have a vested interest in the school-wide expectations and curriculum, we as a faculty, staff, and community must first have a vested interest in them. Through discipline, structure, and high expectations, we try to break down barriers and set new standards for our athletes.
Every day, we teach our student-athletes to strive beyond barriers and fear to reach their full potential.
We work with our athletes each and every day to teach them the value of self-discipline and hard work.
We strive to be the best in everything that we do. As a cheer coach, I have tried to provide my squads with unique experiences and opportunities. We were the first squad in our school district to compete at a national cheer competition. Between cheer camps and cheer competitions, we have traveled to many states in recent years. I am so proud to coach a talented group of scholar-athletes, many of whom are ranked in the top 10% of their class. While we pride ourselves in encompassing the true essence of a cheerleader, cheerleading is an extremely expensive extracurricular activity. Our cheer parents spend between $1,600-$2,000 PER cheerleader for uniforms, camp wear, practice wear, tumbling classes, camp, cheer accessories, and bus transportation to and from games and camp.
However, carrying textbooks, school supplies, and practice clothes or game day apparel and equipment in one bag on a daily basis can cause a lot of strain on bags as well as on the backs of my cheerleaders.
I am asking for bags that can be used specifically for cheer apparel and equipment. This way, my cheerleaders can lock their cheer bags up in the locker room and carry the school supplies in their everyday book bags.
