This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I am a Grade 3 Special Education Teacher at a Title I school. We are currently under state receivership - meaning we are closely monitored and student success is tracked. We work hard every day to help our students succeed and thrive. It is difficult at times to work in these conditions - low socioeconomic status community, state receivership, and longer hours. But- I grew up in, and love this community and am committed to helping us grow and become the school district that I know we can!

I plan on using the hats, gloves, and scarves on my project list to help students stay warm during recess and waiting for the bus when they do not have their own.

Our school is in Massachusetts, where it gets extremely cold. Many times, students do not have a hat or gloves to keep them warm. The majority of my caseload comes from extremely low-socioeconomic/poverty-level households, often facing homelessness and food insecurity. It is my hope that by stocking a care closet with hats and gloves for all students, students will stay warm and comfortable.
