My Project

Hello! My name is Mrs. O'Leary, and I am a third-grade classroom teacher. My students and I have a Harry Potter themed classroom! Our favorite part of the day is each day after recess, students eat a snack and I read aloud a chapter from the Harry Potter Series. So far, we have finished the first two books in the series and will be starting the third installment shortly.

My students have demonstrated a passion for the shared reading model.

Shared reading is an interactive read aloud where the students share the reading of the book with the support of a teacher. I've noticed while reading the first two books of the series, that my students love to have their own copies of the books to follow along while I read aloud. This usually occurs when a student purchases the book on their own or borrows it from the library to bring into class. I only have one or two extra books to provide for the other students. This sometimes leads to conflicts between the students whose turn it is to read from the extra books, etc.

Ideally, I would love for each of my students to have a copy of the book for when we start the third installment of Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. I would like to provide all students with the opportunity to read along. Your donation will help to purchase a book for each of my third graders!
