This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach at a low-income, Title I school district, and my students face several challenges both in and out of the classroom. Last year we were struck by Hurricane Harvey and our school was really not damaged, but the homes of many of my students were.

They like to move, they love to read and love lots of positive attention.

From the minute they walk in the door of my classroom I focus on their potential and growth while they are with me. I may not be able to personally to solve the many challenges they face outside of school. However, I can certainly make a powerful impact on the eight hours they spend here at school every day.

My Project

Our entire 5th grade has an over-the-top Harry Potter theme where students all belong to a house and compete. Classrooms are like stepping into Hogwarts and they start off the year by reading Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone. We also happen to have a STEM computer engineering club where students learn to build and repair computers.

Those students would LOSE THEIR MINDS if they got to learn how to code and do it with Harry Potter Wands at the same time.

I cannot believe this wonderful product is a thing but it is absolutely perfect for our 5th grade students and our classroom.
