Help me give my students a new set of biographies of Harriet Tubman to replace the 1954 biographies we are currently using.

My Students

I teach a class of fourth graders ready to collaborate and learn together every day. This is a diverse class of gifted students, English learners, and some with special needs. Many students qualify for free lunches and attend our school breakfast program.

My classroom is student-centered and the kids love to use technology tools to dive deep into learning.

Due to underfunding of public schools, my students don't always have the tools they need to succeed. Despite the challenges, the parents are very supportive of the innovative teachers at our school site.

My Project

I've been teaching the story of Harriet Tubman for many years with an outdated biography, published in 1954. Although the basic facts of her life remain unchanged, some of the vocabulary in the novel needs to be updated to reflect our new century!

This new biography about Harriet Tubman contains some great background historical data and teaching tools to further enhance our book study.

The fourth graders enjoy reading biographies of famous Americans, and are inspired by their stories.

When students learn about Harriet Tubman, they also learn about American History through the lens of an extraordinary American.
