Our students come from an amazing variety of backgrounds and abilities from across the city of Boston. We are a public K-8 full inclusion school with a high needs population which believes every student will achieve his or her full potential, developing both the academic skills to excel in learning and the social-emotional skills to become a responsible member of his or her family, community, and larger society.
At my school, we know that 7th grade scientists are at an age where students generally make up their minds about whether they identify with science and engineering by the time they leave 8th grade, and whether they will pursue these fields in high school and beyond.
This cross-curricular book will spark our students' interest in Science, Technology and Engineering through an inspiring, real-world story of opportunity and thought-provoking energy use choices faced by this generation across the world.
My Project
By collaborating with English Language Arts Teachers, my 7th grade scientists will see how engineering solved a real problem for a young person and their community.
Alongside this tale of harnessing a renewable energy source, we will be able to bring to life valuable lessons on ecology and what happens when we stop protecting the land that feeds us.
In 7th Grade Science, our students learn about kinetic and potential energy sources and how our energy choices impact the world around us. This story will grip students with a real engineering design challenge that has a life-changing solution, thanks to William's knowledge.
