Harmony Needs Some Bass?

My students need a bass xylophone bar to help them hear the harmonic movement of their songs.

My Students

Our music room has a variety of xylophones. We play them very often. However, one element is missing. We need a bass note added to the sound much in the same way as a band needs a bass drum. It would help anchor the harmony of the music.

Our school is not rich but it is filled with many dedicated students and parents.

However, we can not afford to buy a bass bar. That is unfortunate as the children get very excited when they get to play instruments. Especially instruments that are big and special. And a bass bar is definitely big and special. It is even exciting for the most experienced adults to play.

My Project

Anything that motivates the students in my music class carries over to the classroom. They can only learn when they are in school. They want to be at school more if they can come to music or P.E. or art. This bass bar will be a big hit and the children will not want to miss the chance to play it. It will help them to do group work and improvisational projects. They can simply keep the steady beat or start understanding key changes.

Can we get along without a bass bar?

Of course. But for the same reason as our school gets new books in the library or new software in the computer lab we should also supply the music room with more instruments to keep up student interest. After all, the students come to the music room every week for third, fourth and fifth grade. It is very exciting to see something new.
